Anti-human trafficking training

Andy Desmond and the ATC team run briefings, workshops and education on human trafficking, with particular expertise in Nigerian culture and practice in modern day slavery.

Audiences include:

  • solicitors and barristers
  • law enforcement agencies
  • governments
  • social workers and other first responders
  • non-governmental organisations (NGOs)

Andy also provides bespoke and one to one sessions for particular learning requirements.

Training clients include ECPAT UK (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes), the Dutch Government, the Swiss Federal Office of Police, Swiss Coordination Unit Against the Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants; Office of the Population and Migration of the Canton of Berne, Division Migration, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the UAE.


Training themes include:

  • Basic training course on human trafficking aimed at giving participants a broad understanding of human trafficking.
  • Law enforcement training workshops including investigating cases of human trafficking for lawyers, police, government and NGOs.
  • National Referral Mechanism (NRM) training.
  • Building victim trust.
  • Criminal justice and the presentation of human trafficking cases with cultural sensitivities.
  • Addressing African religion and culture in human trafficking cases, including the understanding of Juju and working with affected victims.
